Millions of Canadians (and Americans or otherwise) rely on the establishment media for their daily news, editorial, and information. Yet, few are aware that the media monolith (newspapers, magazines, radio, and television) is in the hands of a tiny elite monoploy. David Icke is raising key questions such as: "Do the establishment media directly or indirectly control both the "masses" and the "politicians" to promote and further their own selected, selfish interests?" If such control is possible, then it is necessary to question the answers to the questions that David Icke has been raising in his books, in his videos, and on his current world tour to promote his book "The Biggest Secret."
Further research in this area is very relevant now, considering what happened to David Icke on his Ontario '99 Tour when he asked questions such as: "Who are these men and/or women who head the few remaining media corporations and to whom are they beholden?" Others ask related questions such as: "Who are these men and/or women who are so very well skilled in their mission of unfairly labelling and harassing David Icke and to whom are they beholden?" The ongoing "David Icke Controversy" illustrates the problem. Whereas David Icke committed no more of an offense than to express in his live presentations some "unpopular" opinions that are written and documented in his newest book, "The Biggest Secret" and in his video presentation called "Freedom Road" he has been subjected to ongoing harassment by "Customs and Immigration authorities" and character defamation by "uninformed" individuals and "powerful lobby" groups.
A little background may be helpful to put David's situation into perspective. Back in 1988, National Revenue Minister, Government of Canada, Elmer McKay announced "New Hate Propaganda Guidelines" which in reality were the precursor to making "free discussion, debate, and free expression of unpopular ideas and/or opinions" a criminal offense in Canada in the 1990's and beyond. Unbelievable !! Strange also that the establishement media with their supposedly vested interest in "freedom of speech and freedom of expression" never protested vigourously against these "ploice state" New Hate Propaganda Guidelines."
I am also reminded of the "Zundel Trial and Retrial" and the "David Irving Controversy" back in the 1980's. Canadians did not seem to mind back in 1985 that Ernst Zundel was attacked and labelled a "racist" by the same opponents that have been hasseling David Icke. Sabina Citron from The Canadian Holocaust Remembrance Association complained that Ernst Zundel was breaking the law. A lengthy trial ensued in 1985 and the Government of Ontario immediately ordered a "Retrial" after the Ontario Court of Appeal quashed the original conviction. This was all about a little booklet entitled "Did Six Million Reall Die?" The booklet was written by British author, Richard Harwood and re-printed by Ernst Zundel in 1981 and delivered or mailed to a few Canadians - who by the way were under no obligation to read it.
I recall the day the "Zundel Retrial" commenced in Toronto, (January 18,1988). Scott Honeyman, Managing Editor of the Ottawa Citizen wrote: "We won't spend a lot of newsprint covering evidence and arguments that are merely repeated from the last trial." This statement indicated that the formerly noisy media monopoly whose power is inestimable and whose "hidden agenda" was questionable at that time intended to "manage" the "Zundel Retrial." In hindsight, I ask WHY?? There was a time when media personalities relished free and open debate before reaching a verdict. What happened in 1988 was the beginning of a new approach whereby the media overtly exercised their power to curb the free flow of information at 361 University Avenue in downtown Toronto where important historical issues were being argued by the prosecution and the defense.
I also recall in March of 1989 when the renowned British historian, David Irving was touring Canada. David Irving was falsely labelled a "Nazi sympathizer" and a "crypto-fascist" by Ottawa Citizen reporter, Robert Sibley on March 7th, 1989. David Irving, a meticulous historical researcher was simply offering information about controversial views of history. During his Canadian Tour inquisitive citizens were intimidated by ignorant accusers who sought to censor and manage history, ignore historical facts and details, and to supress any opposing points of view. Like David Icke, David Irving did not impose his views on anyone. Both speakers are emphatic about listening to new information and then setting out to do your own research to find out what rings as "truth" for you.
Few Canadians knew that David Irving had been converted to a different point of view after reading "The Leutchter Report" which was presented as evidence in the first Zundel Trial. Nor did many Canadians know that David Irving was the twenty-third and last defense witness to testify at the Zundel Retrial in April 1988 since most of the mainstream print and electronic media had imposed self-censorship on any news coverage of that Zundel Retrial. Ironically, those who mistakenly labelled David Irving as a "racist" during his 1989 Canadian Tour only alerted more Canadians to research and review "alternative history" resulting in increased attention to David Irving's books which offered his opinions developed from orginal source materail - dairies, letters, documents and archival material.
I wrote the following words in a Letter To The Editor, The Ottawa Citizen, March 20, 1989, page A9: "A bomb threat (the first ever) against David Irving at the Chateau Laurier Hotel, a raucous protest against his lecture and a forced cancellation at Carleton University summons free thinkers to study "alternative history." It is interesting that ten years later another renowned British author, David Icke is summoning more "free thinkers" to awaken because he is being similarily tagged with "false" labels by the some of the same accusers who harassed Ernst Zundel and David Irving. The ongoing, sometimes successful attempts to supress seminars and/or lectures by renowned world authors indicates that "free thinking" man of the late 20th Century has a grave obligation with regard to comparing the popular and traditional and "politically correct" information which is stated in high shcool and university textbooks to the "alternative information" being offered by current researchers in their recently published works.
We can no longer afford to measure "truth" by the popular opinion of the media who have been hoodwinking the public throughout this 20th Century. The majority of people have only been exposed to the "censored" but "authorized" textbooks which simply print "the blanket of the truth" to maintain and manage the social, economic and political nature of the established order. We are now awakening to the awareness that history has been carefully "managed" with a concerted effort to discredit, reject adn eradicate any person who advocates any unpopular, "alternative" versions of history - whether it be regarding politcis, economics, religion, medicine, energy or any other topic.
Many of the modern, self-styled reporters who are indebted to their media masters have learned their lessons very well. They use language (language is not neutral) that implies that David Icke is guilty of "hate crimes" even before any evidence has been gathered by the "Hate Police." Proof of this issue of language is offered by Laura Bobak on page 8 of The Toronto Sun, October 6, 1999 when she writes a very brief article entitled: "U of T Allows Hate Speaker." The fact is that only a very small minority of Canadians (less than 1%) would have any knowledge of who David Icke is and what he writes and talks about. So before the public have an opportunity to make their own decision, Laura Bobak, who didn't even interview David Icke forms an opinion and labels him a "hate speaker" and the public (there are some exceptions) believe her "lies." The imposition of self-censorship by the media masters on the news coverage (or lack thereof) of the current "David Icke Controversy" has a very important bearing on the critical issue of "freedom of speech."
As I have explained from the examples above, in Canada, just as in other countries of the world, the news is becoming carefully "managed." The silent power(s) behind the media - which have been generally unidentified until the release of David Icke's newest book "The Biggest Secret" are brutally capable of printing "lies, deceit and deception" as they decide where and when (and whether) to report their carefully managed news stories. It is worthy of note here that with the exception of a carefully crafted news item in the National Post which focused on the "protest" against David Icke there was no other significant news story about the very successful seminar that David presented to approximately 450 people in the Hart house at the University of Toronto.
There is an alternative media rising up in Canada (and elsewhere) which dares to provide opportunities for fellow-Canadians (and others) to read about "news and information" dismised as "NOT NEWSWORTHY" by the establishment media. Canadians (and others) who cherish "truth, freedom, and justice" are encouraged to read these alternative newspaers and/or magazines as well as the various e-zines and/or mailing lists on the internet. Those growing numbers of Canadians (or otherwise) who will no longer tolerate censorship and/or intentional misinformation and/or management of the news nor the denial of freedom of expression as ordinary and acceptable are encouraged to share the names of "alternative resources" for exchange within our growing networks. Please forward your "alternative resources" suggestions to: tom@cyberclass.net and I will update the list as it grows.
