Letter To The Farming Community of Stone Mills Township:

It is my intent to inspire some action in the area of  "re-education" to close the economic divide in both urban and rural Canada and specifically in Stone Mills Township - at this critical time.

Instead of blindly accepting that the local economy must permit the "aristocracy of wealth" to open the door for eventual "corporate farm takeover" of the rest of the small and medium farms in Stone Mills Township let's attempt to "re-educate" the local farming community on what is really going on in the global economy, the national economy, the provincial economy as well as the local economy.

The optimal way for the "aristocracy of wealth" to get rooted in Stone Mills Township is to use as a locally raised farm boy and his spouse as a "front people" and keep them ignorant of any long term, hidden agenda which is likely well-known to their "undisclosed" financial backers.

Some local citizens of Stone Mills Township feel that any reference to the agenda of the NWO (New World Order) and the "Global Elite" clouds the immediate task at hand which is to simply stop the application for the "intensive hog factory farm" by having the Council of Stone Mills Township refuse the building permit. I remind these local citizens that their local group (Concerned Citizens For Community Environment) CCCE currently has a political visible support base of less than 3% of the voters of Stone Mills Township. Such a small support base will not impact any elected officials who can rely on the other 97% of the voters to "re-elect" them in 2003.

I define the resistance among local citizens to understanding the "big picture" as the "complexity of solution." Nothing that happens on planet earth in 2001 is ever just "local or global" but a twisted knot of BOTH. Though myself and a few of the people who reside in Stone Mills Township see this application for an "intensive hog factory farm" as part of a greater conspiracy of   "greed and corporate farm takeover" I fully understand that less than 3% of the voters of Stone Mills Township who are local residents in the area of Erinsville and Tamworth just want to stop the "Pig Farm" from being in their back yard.

I am suggesting that what they must do to mobilize the entire 7000 voters is to "re-educate" the other 97% about what is really happening globally to motivate them to support political action locally. Without undoing the "twisted knot of local and global events" they will not find any reason to become politically active locally. Without mobilized political action the "intensive hog factory farm" on Wadell's Road will become a reality and Stone Mills Township will be ripe and ready for the next stage of "corporate farm takeover."

Unless the community becomes aware of the hidden agenda of the "unknown" financial backers of the Slack "intensive hog factory farm" and mobilizes with political action they can expect that within the next 25 years, all of the small and medium farmers in Stone Mills Township will be working as "wage slaves" for the "corporate farmers" who will own the land BUT they
(the new corporate farm owners) will be considerate and let the farmers work for them. Doesn't this seem much like what was going on in Russia in the early part of the 20th Century?

During the 20th Century, small and medium farmers were considered "middle class" in Canada. Many small and  medium farmers in Stone Mills Township who have not been able to compete over the past 30 years have simply gone out of business. The illusion is that this reality has contributed somehow to making the farming system somehow more efficient. This may be so, but it's more efficient for the "corporate farms" and more dangerous for consumers who will be at the mercy of these "corporate farms" who will be the sole suppliers of food in the 21st Century.

The "truth" is that what has been happening in North America and globally has likewise been happening to small and medium farmers in Stone Mills Township. Those local, small and medium farmers who were neither in the top 13 percent nor the bottom 13 percent of the farming market have been the big losers in the last half of the 20th Century. Their wealth and earnings have dipped to a very low share of the wealth and earnings of farm market in Stone Mills Township.

Even more noticeable is the fact that the wealth and earnings of small and medium farmers all across Canada has drastically decreased so much so that those who are still in business have had to find secondary sources of income just to survive. These small and medium family farmers in Stone Mills Township and elsewhere have much less in March 2001, despite the economic news stories which tell us that the economy as a whole is increasing as a per capita GDP (Gross Domestic Product).

Simply stated, the small and medium family farms have become non-participants in the Canadian economy. Inviting one more factory farm into Stone Mills Township is guaranteeing that the species of the small and medium family farm for which my late father, Leonard Kennedy, had great pride will become extinct before the next generation.
