Re: Federal Election 2000 (Party Leaders &
Candidates of Ottawa West-Nepean Riding)
I am John C. "The Engineer" Turmel, B. Eng., the
Abolitionist Party of Canada candidate in Ottawa West-Nepean. The Abolitionist Party
promotes the LETS (Local Employment-Trading Software) community currency system.
In the 1997 Ottawa West-Nepean general election, a petition for a
National LETS was signed by five out of the eight party candidates. the Abolitionist,
Green, NDP, Natural Law and Marxist-Leninist. Only the Liberal, Conservative and Reform
(Canadian Alliance) did not.
Since then, LETS has been supported by the Australian, New
Zealand, Great Britain, European Parliaments, by the whole spectrum of political thought.
It has also been supported by Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, et al.
In May 2000, the idea of a world-wide LETS was enshrined in
United Nations "Millennium Forum" Declaration C6 [1] of 1300 Non Government
Organizations which urges governments to create a world-wide LETS through a United Nations
agency called UNILETS [2] to provide an interest-free alternative currency bank account
and credit card to every citizen of the world based on the time standard of money.
[1] www.un.org/millennium/declaration.htm
[2] www.millenniumforum.org/html/papers/Globaliz_currentpaper.htm
Unfortunately, in September 2000, the "Millennium
Summit" Declaration of 181 political leaders including Jean Chretien failed to
include the UNC6 UNILETS resolution. My goal is to get the consensus of Canada's political
parties to have the Government of Canada submit an amendment to the "Millennium
Summit" Declaration that would include "Millennium Forum" Declaration C6
for a UNILETS interest-free alternative time-based currency.
OTTAWA WEST/NEPEAN
This Ottawa West-Nepean general election of 2000 has the same
basic cast of parties.
1) Abolitionist John Turmel back promoting LETS
2) Canadian Alliance Barry Yeates ran for the Reform last time.
3) Canadian Action David Creighton is new
4) Communist Stuart Ryan is new but no Marxist-Leninist
5) Green Party Matt Takach replaces Stuart Langstaf
6) Liberal Marlene Catteral is back
7) Natural Law Richard Michael Wolfson replaces Stan Lamothe
8) Marijuana Sotos Petrides is new
9) N.D.P. Kevin Kinsella replaces Wendy Byrne
10) Progressive Conservative Tom Curran replaces Margret Kopala.
Also important on the Canadian political spectrum are:
11) Libertarian of Canada Leader Jean Serge Brisson
12) Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada
13) Christian Heritage Party of Canada
At our first meeting on Wednesday 15 2000, I spoke to all the
candidates and asked them to contact their party leaders about Canada supporting UNC6
UNILETS. In particular:
ABOLITIONIST PARTY www.cyberclass.net/turmel
Leader John C. Turmel turmel@freenet.carleton.ca
I've led the political fight for a world-wide UNILETS.
GREEN PARTY: www.green.ca
Candidate Matt Takach takachmatt@home.ca
Leader Joan Russow info@green.ca
Matt, I was happy hear you endorse LETS at our last meeting. It's
always been me and the Greens endorsing LETS for over a decade of political meetings.
Stuart Langstaf supported National LETS last time and I hope you can persuade Joan Russow
to join you in sending support for UNC6 UNILETS.
NATURAL LAW PARTY: www.natural-law.ca
Candidate Richard Michael Wolfson rwolfson@concentric.net
Leader Neil Paterson info@natural-law.ca
Richard, I was thrilled to hear that the Natural Law Party have
joined your local LETS. I was just as thrilled when Stan Lamothe signed the Petition for
National LETS at the last election and I hope I'll be just as elated when you sign this
petition for a world-wide LETS too.
NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY: www.ndp.ca
Candidate Kevin Kinsella campaign@ottawawest-nepeanndp.com
Leader Alexa McDonough ndp2000@alexa.ndp.ca
Kevin, when NDP candidate Wendy Byrne signed the Petition for
National LETS in the last election, she did this on her own initiative. LETS is not yet on
the NDP platform but she bet that from the good reports she had taken the time to study,
she knew it was a benefit that would not be criticized. I'm glad you too showed your
approval of LETS but now I need you to be the standard-bearer and contact your party
leader to explain why your party needs to endorse the UNILETS Amendment.
MARXIST-LENINIST PARTY: www.cpcml.ca
Leader Sandra Smith office@cpcml.ca
In 1997, Marxist-Leninist candidate in Ottawa West-Nepean Marsha
Fine signed the Petition for a National LETS. It's been my honour to often announce the
endorsement of the extreme Left to the many endorsements from the political right. Though
there is no Marxist-Leninist candidate in Ottawa West-Nepean this time, I would be again
honored to fill out the spectrum of political support with your party's name added to
those other Canadian parties that endorse this world-acclaimed anti-poverty system.
CHRISTIAN HERITAGE PARTY OF CANADA: www.chp.ca
Leader Ronald O. Gray edchp@attcanada.ca
I know that your party has been just deregistered but you too
represent part of the Canadian political spectrum. In 1996, your party leader signed the
petition for LETS. I would invite you to make one of your last public acts to be a stamp
of approval with the other parties for the UNILETS anti-poverty lifeboat.
LIBERTARIAN PARTY OF CANADA: www.libertarian.ca
Leader Jean Serge Brisson dz510@freenet.carleton.ca
Jean Serge, I'm glad to find out that you and your party have
joined your local LETS. I presume that you would wish your trading possibilities to extend
world-wide and that you will support the UNILETS world-wide time trading system.
CANADIAN ACTION PARTY: www.canadianactionparty.ca
Candidate David Creighton dcr8on@sympatico.ca
Leader Paul Hellyer info@canadianactionparty.ca
David, I was glad to hear you approve of LETS. I'd expect that
from a party that discusses monetary reform. I need your endorsement of the UNC6
UNILETS amendment and I want you to speak to Paul Hellyer about it. If UNILETS is
installed, it will perform the function you want the Bank of Canada to do, only from
above.
I've always admitted that the "social credit"
injections of what was labelled "funny money" through dividends and compensated
discounts would have kept the amount of money very close to balancing the amount of
prices. But I've repeatedly pointed out that LETS eliminates the imbalance in the first
place which makes compensation unnecessary so of the two monetary reform mechanisms,
compensating for the imbalance or eliminating the imbalance, LETS has the same equation as
your interest-free Bank of Canada only UNILETS is an interest-free bank of the world.
Please urge Paul Hellyer's early endorsement.
BLOC QUEBECOIS: www.blocquebecois.org
Leader Gilles Duceppe info@bloc.org
M. Duceppe:
A mon site web www.cyberclass.net/turmel/urlsnat.htm
gilgam@globetrotter.net
- Laval: www.er.uqam.ca/nobel/grip/seve
seve@moncourrier.com
- Montreal E: sel_pte@cam.org E: ci411@torfree.net
- Val-David QU Heures E: abellay@polyinter.com
La Declaration du Millennium C6 aux Nations Unies preconise un
SEL Mondial nomme UNILETS. Je souhaite votre approbation ainsi que de votre parti pour
cette initiative anti-pauvrete.
COMMUNIST PARTY www.communist-party.ca
Candidate Stuart Ryan sryan@ccs.carleton.ca
Leader Miguel Figueroa pvoice@web.net
Stuart, you've heard of LETS. Will the Communist Party endorse
UNILETS too?
MARIJUANA PARTY: www.marijuanaparty.com
Candidate Sotos Petrides ottawawest@canada.com
Leader Marc-Boris St-Maurice info@marijuanaparty.org
Sotos, I've supported marijuana publicly my whole 21-year
political career. Marijuana supporters like the past Canadian
president of NORML supported LETS by joining the Abolitionist Party of Canada. As you
handled questions in our meetings, I need you to now handle the question of you and your
leader supporting UNC6 UNILETS.
CANADIAN ALLIANCE PARTY: www.canadianalliance.ca
Candidate Barry Yeates campaign@barryyeates.com
Leader Stockwell Day day@canadianalliance.ca
Barry, you've heard had three years to learn about LETS since the
last election. You were one of those who didn't support the national LETS last time. Given
Stockwell Day's western roots, he's probably up on the old social credit doctrine and
might understand the similarity with LETS. I urge you to prepare a response to whether you
and your party support UNC6 UNILETS.
PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE PARTY: www.pcparty.ca
Candidate Tom Curran tomc@achilles.net
Leader Joe Clark pcinfo@pcparty.ca
Tom, you've heard LETS explained several times. I mentioned that
Tories in other Commonwealth countries have supported their local LETS. There's no reason
Tories in Canada should be any slower.
LIBERAL PARTY: www.liberal.ca
Candidate Marlene Caterral info@marlenecaterral.on.ca
Leader Jean Chretien feedback@liberal.ca
Marlene, you've had the chance to hear about LETS for many years
and though the Liberals in the UK have had supportive policy papers on LETS for years, you
have never looked into its beneficial effects. Then we have the spectacle of Jean Chretien
signing the Millennium Summit Declaration which forgot to include the UNILETS
recommendation from the Millennium Forum. I would point out that Health Canada funded a
University of Toronto study on the health benefits of belonging to the Toronto LETS.
Perhaps you should check out the results. I urge you to join the consensus on UNILETS
being a good thing for the planet.
On Tuesday Nov. 21 2000, we will meet again in debate. I hope you
will have been able to research the UNILETS issue to your satisfaction before then because
I will ask each of you for an endorsement of the world-wide UNILETS anti-poverty lifeboat.
There's a new millennium dawning and we can to face it with a
better money system. UNILETS is that better money system. UNILETS is that perfect money
system.
If you endorse the UNC6 UNILETS, please send an email message to:
UNILETS@egroups.com.
