Paul Zane Pilzer Puts It In Perspective

"This Nation's Health Problems Are Not The Result Of A Conspiracy, It's Worse, It's Economics! The Good News Is - Economics Is Also Providing The Solution!"

By Dick McDaniel

Few people are as eminently qualified as an authority in their field as Paul Zane Pilzer. He completed college in three years and earned an MBA from Wharton in another 15 months. By age 24 he was a professor at New York University and by age 26 he'd earned his first $ million. He became Citibank's youngest officer at the age of 22 and youngest Vice President at the age of 25. When he was age 30 he had earned his first $10 million. He was Economics Advisor to Presidents Regean and Bush, predicted the Savings and Loan debacle in 1985, in the 1980's predicted the Internet as the fastest growing industry of the '90's, and a trillion dollar industry by the year 2000. He's also authored the books, "Unlimited Wealth", "God Wants You To Be Rich", is currently writing "The Next Trillion" and is editor in chief and publisher of Success Magazine.

The use of plastics lowered manufacturing costs ten times within 10 years and lowered distribution costs by half. By 1990 85% of all costs were in distribution whereas just a few short years before 85% of all costs were in the product. The greatest fortunes are to be made in distribution as illustrated by Sam Walton.

Although we won the Cold War, we're losing the "Health War". During the last decade we've doubled obesity. Contrary to
what most people believe, health is an economic issue, not a health or nutritional one. Historically the rich were fat, today it's the poor who are fat and now the rich are lean and fit.

By the year 2050 total medical expenses will exceed the Gross National Product-a virtual impossibility.

At present, wellness is not treated nor is it covered by insurance, because the Medical Industry is governed by the "Law of Economics", i.e., money rules, it's worse than a conspiracy according to Professor Pilzer.

Pilzer defines our traditional Health Care Industry as "The Sickness Industry" where it controls 1/7th of our economy, 1/7th of our population and 1/7th of every dollar spent.

The Wellness Industry, which is his term for those modalities which enhance health and includes food supplements, fitness, cosmetic dentistry, genetic engineering, etc., is now a $200 Billion Industry. Using a straight-line projection, he projects it to be a $1.0 Trillion per year industry by 2010 without any cross-over from the Sickness Industry! He believes the Wellness
Industry is the solution for the immoral focus on economics by the Packaged Food and Medical Industry.

The reason why Dr. Pilzer believes Wellness will become so large so quickly is because of the Baby Boomer generation. Baby Boomers believe they'll never get old and are obsessed with doing everything they can to deny the aging process whereas previous generations accepted the fact that "I'm old". Baby Boomers are now 36 to 54 years of age and account
for $5.0 Trillion of our $10 Trillion economy.

The second reason why he believes Wellness will become so dominate is the Unlimited prosperity involved when consuming
a consumable product.

Wellness, however, doesn't require "more time because it's used all the time." Therefore it uses unlimited resources! This is just beginning to be understood. When we sell a consumer a product which they like, the consumer will ask, "What else do you have for me?" This represents "unlimited demand". Where do people go for "more"? To the same source they got their first product. The real growth in Wellness will be for products not yet available. Wellness works because of aging.

Pilzer believes by 2010 we'll be able to test our DNA to see what we need to correct a deficiency - that Wellness is now where medicine was 100 years ago - that we must learn to focus on empirical data, not why it works.

Some of the major Insurance Companies are now starting to work on Wellness. $600 Billion per year is spent on insurance premiums. 80% of the people don't collect anything from their policies. 20% of the policy holders spend all of the money. They are now working on plans for Wellness Products and Services.
